Give me some love!

I’m Still Here!

Oh my gosh! I cannot believe it has been almost three weeks since my last post! I am SO sorry for my absence. A lot has been changing in my world and I would by lying if I said it has been an easy transition. So much has happened recently that I’m not even sure where to start. The last time I posted, I was preparing to start my new job, so I guess I’ll start there. So, I trained my replacement in AP and on the Tuesday after Labor Day, I started my new job.

I really enjoy my new job, but it has been a big shift from what I’m used to in my day to day life. Honestly, I didn’t think it would be a huge change but… I was wrong. HA. However, I love almost everything about it. The work is satisfying. It’s more challenging and allows me to use my degree. The volume is less, so the stress level seems to be lower. I am working with different types of government contracts and that makes me happy, finally getting to put my college education to use! I really like my boss and my co-workers are really sweet. Plus, it’s a more intimate group because it’s much smaller than AP, so that’s a nice change. One of the biggest perks is that I get every other Friday off, now! Today is my first Friday off, so I thought I should use this time to write a blog post!

Not All Sunshine and Roses

Though I love most things about my new position, not everything has been a positive change. There are always going to be a few small things that you hate about any job. I thought I would talk about those, too, so you guys don’t start thinking my life is too perfect. I assure you, it’s not! First of all, the thing I like the very, very least is the flip side of the thing I like the very, very most: the Friday off. In order to get this Friday off, I have to work nine hour shifts every day. Which means, I have to be at work thirty minutes earlier and stay thirty minutes later. I am here to tell you, the difference between 5:30 AM and 6:00 AM is significant. SIGNIFICANT.

The baby also hates my new schedule. He doesn’t like getting up earlier any more than I do. I wish I could say we’re adjusting well, but…. The next thing is that NO ONE one the SCI side of the hall wears jeans! Yuck! So, I’ve had to go and buy five new pairs of dress pants. UGH. I got SO spoiled working on the Sanmina side, where every one wears jeans, every. single. day! The last thing that stinks is the strict time clock. LOL. I’m gonna be honest, on the Sanmina side of things, no one cares if you clock in five minutes late and clock out five minutes early. Every one does it. EVERYONE. Not so on the SCI side. We’re government contractors, so we use the government time keeping system and EVERY MINUTE COUNTS. Boooo.

I know I’ll get used to these things, but apparently, it’s going to take more than two week!

Other Exciting News!

In other exciting news, I have been trying to do some new/fun things with the (very scarce) free time that I have. I have gotten absolutely hooked on buy-sell-trade pages on Facebook and have been selling Chase’s clothes from last winter and using that money to off-set the cost of Chase’s fall/winter clothes for this year. If you’re not buying kid’s clothes on these pages, you’re spending too much. I’m just going to be honest and say that I have gotten carried away buying his wardrobe. See, the thing is, we JUST ran out of clothes from the baby shower, so this is the first time I’ve had the opportunity to be the one to pick out all of his clothes. OH MY GOSH. I’ve had too much fun! My favorites are Janie and Jack, Gymboree, Oshkosh B’gosh and Baby Gap. I’ve been cut off from buying anymore fall/winter clothing for him but I assure you, the kid is going to be stylin’ come fall!

So… while buying baby clothes is tons of fun, that’s not what I’m most excited about here!

I have been wanting to buy a DSLR since I got pregnant and I finally bit the bullet. I did a lot of research and decided that the Nikon D3200 would be a good starter model that should meet all my needs. Starting this blog was what really pushed me over the edge. I see all of these blogs that I admire and the one main difference between their blogs and mine is quality photographs. Well, no longer! I may not know what I am doing, but I am having a lot of fun learning.

Another reason I decided to buy the camera is because we’ve spent hundreds of dollars on photography just in the first nine months of Chase’s life. I convinced Allen that it was a good investment by pointing out that this means we won’t have to go to the portrait studio anymore. The final reason I decided to buy the camera is because my 30th birthday is on the horizon and I wanted to buy myself a gift that would enrich my life more than another pair of shoes would. Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase so far, and I am excited that it really isn’t as difficult to use as I had initially feared. So, get ready for meal prep posts with MUCH better photos coming your way SOON!

A Few Photos

Like I said, I have no idea what I’m doing but, I am enjoying the process. I have taken a few photos that I think don’t suck and as soon as I get Adobe up and running on my computer, I feel like my photographs will get much better once I’m able to tweak the colors with Light Room.

So, here they are.. my first few photographs. Be kind, I’m a novice, shooting in manual for the first time in my life!

This is the sunset yesterday at the lake near my house!

Here’s my kid looking ridiculously cute

Those teeth though!

Such a sweet smile!

Cats are so much easier to photograph than babies

So, long story short. In the past three weeks I have started a new job and I love it. I bought a camera and love it! I am addicited to buying baby clothes and I’m working on it. 🙂 Have a great week!!!!
